Iron + Earth and re.generation collaborated with Dream It Creations to document their inspiring journey into the remote community of Délı̨nę, Northwest Territories. The project aimed to showcase the efforts of the Iron + Earth team in fostering renewable energy initiatives while embracing and respecting the unique culture and landscape of Délı̨nę. Highlights included capturing fishing and hiking, solar panels being installed, and interviews with local community members — telling a holistic story of energy sovereignty and cultural preservation.

Challenges
Working in a remote community added real logistical complexity. Traveling to Délı̨nę from Vancouver meant strict baggage limits — a maximum of 60 lbs per person, due to the smaller plane — so filming equipment had to be carefully planned and prioritized. The community’s limited amenities also made meal preparation harder, with only two local shops offering goods at significantly higher prices than typical stores. We adapted to all of it to deliver a successful production.
Results
The project culminated in a 2-minute video showcasing the impactful initiatives underway in Délı̨nę. The video highlights the cultural richness, natural beauty, and community-driven renewable energy efforts — a narrative that resonates with viewers and underscores the importance of energy sovereignty in remote communities.

To create an authentic and visually strong video, we used a combination of video portraits, cultural b-roll, and immersive community interactions. Shooting on a Sony FX3 with a 24-70mm lens, we used handheld techniques and active stabilization for dynamic, intimate footage, capturing sequences at 24fps for a cinematic feel that emphasized the serene beauty of Délı̨nę’s landscape. Meaningful interviews with local community members and participants kept their voices central to the narrative. By building a respectful relationship with the Indigenous community, we were able to create a video that authentically represented the initiatives and the spirit of Délı̨nę.
